The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to support the family members of the fallen heroes.

The commander, Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, Bauchi, Maj.–Gen. Mohammed Ahmed, stated this during the widows outreach organised by the Bauchi State chapter of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Armoured Corps. He said the Nigerian army recognised the sacrifices made by their husbands while in service as well as the sacrifices the widows were making. Mr Ahmed said the widow’s strength would boost morale and motivate the soldiers defending the country. He charged officers in the army to accord priority toward ensuring the best treatment of family members of the deceased soldiers.“As part of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja’s philosophy, motivation is one of the key cardinal points. “So, today, we honour you, these brave women who have lost their loved ones in service to our great country, Nigeria. “We know the loss is unimaginable and irreparable but we thank you for your unwavering support and resilience. “We will never forget the sacrifices you and your loved ones have made and you have remained part of the heroes which we are. “We will continue to support you to the best of our ability, and I want to assure you that it’s part of the Chief of Army Staff’s policy to ensure that this is done,” he said. The commander said the federal government had registered all the army personnel in life insurance where it would pay the premium. This, he said, would go a long way in supporting the wives and children of any deceased army personnel. Earlier, Hafsat Ahmed, chairperson of NAOWA, said the outreach was not only about support but rather about creating a space where empathy transcends words and bonds to be formed for community understanding to flourish. She lauded the commander, Armoured Corps, for his financial, moral and physical support to the association. Some of the items distributed to the 16 widows include food items, clothing materials, tokens and some other items to enable them to celebrate the festive period with joy. (NAN)
