The Nigerian Army has promised to strengthen professional military education through sustained collaboration with the Defense Security Cooperation University (DSCU) in the United States of America.

Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja while receiving a DSCU Nigeria Programme delegation at Army Headquarters.

According to Mr Shaibu, professional military education is critical to building a modern, adaptive, mission-ready force capable of addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

He said, “The Nigerian Army will continue participating in DSCU programmes focused on defence management, logistics systems and institutional capacity development.”

 He stated that exposure to specialised training and international academic platforms sharpens strategic thinking, strengthens defence management, and deepens institutional knowledge.

“This will better prepare our personnel to manage complex operational and administrative responsibilities in contemporary military environments,” Mr Shaibu noted.

Also speaking, leader of the DSCU delegation, Maj.- Gen. Miguel Casteyanoss (retd) said the engagement aims to strengthen institutional capacity in partner nations.

Mr Casteyanoss noted that DSCU provides specialised courses and advisory support to improve defence governance, logistics management, and policy development.

He added that collaboration supports institutional systems, including material readiness, reporting mechanisms, and life-cycle management frameworks within the Army.

“Continued participation of Nigerian Army personnel in DSCU programmes will enhance professional standards, institutional resilience, and long-term capability development,” Mr Casteyanoss said.
