The terror plot is being coordinated by Abu Ubaida and Baa Umar — both operating in Gwoza and fringes of the Sambisa Forest.

Terrorists of the dreaded Boko Haram sect have fine-tuned plans to launch coordinated attacks on selected military formations in Borno and Nasarawa states, officials told Peoples Gazette with additional confirmation that a memo has been circulated to all commands to take measures to forestall attacks.

Military sources said a signal was issued to all commands on October 11, which contained details of the impending attacks on troops deployed in Jere, Mafa, Magumeri, Nganzai, Dikwa and Ngaka local governments of Borno State.

The Gazette learnt that the planned attack is coordinated by the duo of Abu Ubaida and Baa Umar — both operating in Gwoza and fringes of the Sambisa Forest.

The sect’s strategy had included an attempted infiltration of Dusman, Maimusari and Muna communities of Jere LGA, while one of its commanders Abu Sadiq — armed with a general-purpose machine gun, leads a group of fighters for the onslaught on troops in Jere, Magumeri and Nganzai LGAs.

The attacks, the Gazette understands, will bolster the terrorist sect’s ambition of consolidating their position outside the North East by overwhelming the decision-making cycle of troops in Borno and Nasarawa.

The document posits that the insurgents will intensify ambushes and kidnapping activities “in order to acquire logistics to shore up their dwindling base.”

Part of the sect’s grand design also includes leveraging the support of the locals through propaganda.

A military spokesman did not return a request seeking comments about additional measures the military is taking to thwart the terror plot after uncovering it.
