The Federal High Court, Asaba Division, has granted Delta-born investigative journalist, Tega Oghenedoro, popularly known as Fejiro Oliver, bail of N15 million, several weeks after his controversial arrest, which was allegedly ordered by Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.

Mr Oliver, who has been remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre since September, was granted bail on Thursday, with the court directing him to deposit his international passport and land titles as part of the conditions.

However, there are indications that additional charges are being prepared by other political actors to re-arrest and detain him.

“They plan to file another case in both the State High Court and the Magistrate Court against him,” a source told Peoples Gazette on Thursday.

Mr Oliver was arrested in Abuja on September 18, 2025, and subsequently flown to Delta State on a private jet linked to Mr Oborevwori, before being detained at the FCID.

The Gazette had earlier reported that his detention followed petitions by Mr Oborevwori, Senator Ede Dafinone, and Stella Okotete, the executive director of Business Development at NEXIM Bank.

The journalist was accused of cyberstalking and defamation for describing the governor as a “sleeping governor who rigged election” and Mr Dafinone as a “sleeping senator” in a series of online publications. The police claimed the posts violated Section 24(2)(c)(ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

Mr Oliver had spent nearly three weeks in police custody before being arraigned at the Asaba Division of the Federal High Court, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Last Saturday, one of his key supporters, known as General Joshua, was shot dead by thugs linked to Mr Oborevwori in Mosogar, Ethiope West Local Government Area, shortly after leading protests demanding Mr Oliver’s release.
