Nigerian detained in India for trafficking cocaine worth N137 million

A 31-year-old Nigerian drug peddler has been arrested in India for being in possession of 125 grammes of cocaine valued at approximately (N137,522,395.62).

The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Mumbai’s Bandra Unit arrested the suspect near Andheri East during a special operation targeted at drug traffickers in Mumbai

The Nigerian (name withheld) was charged to court, which ordered his detention in police custody until January 12.

In a video posted on its X account on Tuesday, the Asian News International said, “Maharashtra Bandra Unit of the Anti Narcotics Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested a Nigerian from the Andheri area and seized 125 grammes of cocaine drugs from him.

“The recovered drugs were worth Rs 1 crore 25 lakh in the international market. The police registered a case under the NDPS Act, arrested him, and produced him in the court, where he was sent to police custody till January 12.“

Confessing to his crime during interrogation, the suspect said he had been involved in the sale of cocaine in Mumbai city and its suburban areas.

An investigation is underway to uncover other members involved in the drug trade.

The ANC officials disclosed that it had apprehended several interstate drug trafficking syndicates and dismantled multiple networks in Mumbai.

The ANC-Mumbai also revealed that it confiscated contraband with a total value exceeding Rupees 56 Crore, while it had arrested 17 Nigerian nationals out of 231 key drug peddlers in 2023 and 2024.
