Nigerian girls earning living through prostitution should do it well, says Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello
Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has advised young women involved in prostitution for survival to see it as temporary and strive for a better future.
She made the call on The Morayo Show while responding to a question about why she has yet to venture into film production despite her years of experience in the film industry.
Ms Bello explained that she must not be a filmmaker, adding that she was content using her platform to influence and encourage the younger generation.
“So, for me, it is a matter of there are many children out there that need my voice. That needs to hear that the seeds you sow matter. That need to hear you don’t have to show your boobs to be sexy. That needs to hear no, you don’t have to shake your bum to get attention,” Ms Bello said.
Speaking further, the Nollywood actress said, “And if what you are doing now is being a ‘runs girl’ to make money, you don’t have to stay there. I understand it, I never judge. If you be ashawo, do am well. Yes! Do it well, do it with respect, with your full chest. However, don’t stay there. Don’t stay there, darling.”
Ms Bello acknowledged that some girls engage in sex work to earn a living and support their families.
“If that’s (prostitution) what you have to do right now to make a living, some girls are doing it because they need to feed mum, and they need to send their aburo (younger ones) to school. I understand it. However, my darlings, don’t stay there. You are more than that.”
