Nigerian lawmakers inspect Mina camp facilities, seek prayers for Nigeria

Members of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Hajj on Thursday night inspected facilities and welfare services provided to Nigerian pilgrims in Mina.
This forms part of its oversight activities for the 2026 hajj operations.
The delegation, led by Ali Ndume, included members of the Senate Sub-Committee on Hajj and the House of Representatives Sub-Committee on Hajj Affairs.
The delegation toured several accommodation tents housing Nigerian pilgrims to assess the quality of services coordinated and provided by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.
The tents included camp facilities from Kwara, Rivers, Ondo, and Adamawa.
The lawmakers sought feedback from pilgrims on accommodation, healthcare, feeding, transportation, welfare and other hospitality services.
Most pilgrims expressed satisfaction with the welfare services and commended NAHCON for improving their welfare.
Mr Ndume said the inspection was necessary to identify areas needing improvement.
He urged pilgrims to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice required by the pilgrimage while requesting minimal comfort.
“The idea of hajj is sacrifice, and we should try to bear the harsh conditions in the hope that the reward from Allah will be immeasurable,” he said.
He urged pilgrims to pray earnestly for the Nigerian government to surmount the numerous social, political, and security challenges facing the country.
