Nigerian junior tennis players displayed impressive performances on Friday at the ongoing 2026 NASCO/ITF J30 World Tennis Tour Junior Championship in Abuja.

The local players dominated the girls’ events, securing available places in the singles final and underlining Nigeria’s strong showing at the tournament.

Khadijat Mohammed and Success Ogunjobi will contest an all-Nigerian girls’ singles final on Saturday at the Tennis Complex of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Mohammed advanced to the final after a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory over compatriot Emmanuel Kwange in the semifinals.

Ogunjobi also booked her place in the final with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Gloria Samuel in the second semifinal.

In the girls’ doubles final, the Nigerian pair of Emmanuel Kwange and Success Ogunjobi claimed the title after defeating Khadijat Mohammed and Sri Lanka’s V.D. Rashmi Omaye Wijewardana 6-1, 6-2.

Earlier, Mohammed and Wijewardana had edged Nigeria’s Toluwalashe Agunbiade and Lithuania’s Roneta Kacinskaite 7-6, 4-6, 10-7 in the semifinals.

Kwange and Ogunjobi reached the final after defeating the Nigerian duo of Daisy Okechukwu and Gloria Samuel 6-3, 6-4.

In the boys’ singles event, Nigeria’s Gbolahan Olawale recovered from a set down to beat compatriot Seyi Ogunsakin 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 and qualify for the final.

Olawale will face China’s Hengzhi Cui, who defeated compatriot Jinxuan Cheng 6-4, 6-1 in the other semifinal.

However, Olawale missed out on the boys’ doubles title as the Chinese pair of Jinxuan Cheng and Hengzhi Cui defeated him and his partner, Ishaku Kwange, 6-2, 4-6, 10-5 in the final.

The championship will conclude on Saturday with the singles finals, as Mohammed takes on Ogunjobi in the girls’ final, while Olawale faces Cui in the boys’ final.

A total of 14 countries are participating in the second week of the championship, which began on Monday and is scheduled to end on Saturday in Abuja.
