Some Nigerians have called on political office-seekers to focus on issue-based campaigns as preparations for the 2027 general elections begin.

The respondents made the calls in separate interviews in Abuja on Tuesday.

They said candidates should present clear plans and programmes to address the country’s key challenges.

A civil servant, John Musa, said that voters were more interested in policies that would improve the economy and create jobs.

“We want to hear what the candidates will do differently, not just promises,” he said.

Similarly, a trader, Grace Okeke, urged politicians to avoid divisive statements and focus on unity and development.

According to her, campaigns should be peaceful and grounded in ideas that move the country forward.

Also speaking, a student, Ibrahim Sadiq, said young people expect leaders who understand their challenges and are ready to provide opportunities.

He added that education, employment and security should be top priorities for anyone seeking public office.

Another respondent, Chinedu Eze, stressed the need for transparency and accountability in governance.

He said that candidates should clearly explain how they intend to manage public resources if elected.

The respondents also called on the electoral body to ensure a free, fair and credible process in the 2027 elections.

They expressed hope that the elections would produce leaders committed to national development and good governance.
