The operators of Dubai International Airport in the U.A.E. have released a travel guideline that applies only to Nigerian passengers.

The directives prevent Nigerians from entering the country via other air routes.

A statement released to travel partners shows that passengers from Nigeria are no longer allowed to transit through countries or airports to Dubai.

The notice titled, ‘Dubai Travel Protocol Update –Travel From Nigeria,’ reads;

“Kindly be advised that effective from 01 February 2021, the following conditions must be met for travel from Nigeria:

“Passengers must travel directly from Nigeria to Dubai. No passenger may enter Dubai from any other country/station if they have visited or transited from Nigeria in the last 14 days.”

In addition to the conditions listed, passengers are required to obtain a negative COVID-19 certificate where the test would have been carried out within 72 hours of the date of departure, and a rapid test done within four hours of their departure time.

RwandAir made its announcement via its official twitter handle on Sunday, adding that while it runs Kigali to Dubai flights, it will not be lifting passengers from Nigeria.

Only Emirates Airlines, which has its terminal at the Dubai International Airport, flies directly into the city. Other airlines such as Air Peace and British Airways fly into Sharjah from Nigeria.

This policy will negatively impact Nigeria’s Air Peace who had announced the return of its flights to Dubai, this January, after a year-long hold due to the pandemic.

The airline announced that it would fly once a week from February 5, landing in Sharjah and connecting its passengers to Dubai via bus.
