Nigeria’s Black Axe-linked Elike Ogbuefi, Steven Silvester jailed in Dublin for multimillion-pound fraud

Two Nigerians, Elike Francis Ogbuefi and Steven Silvester, “heavily linked to Black Axe international crime syndicate“, have been jailed for €6 million fraud in Ireland.
Described as “directors of criminal gang”, Messrs Ogbuefi and Silvester were jailed for what the court heard was “a worldwide, highly sophisticated money laundering scheme on a breathtaking scale”, Irish national broadcaster, Raidió Teilifís Éireann, reported on Friday.
Mr Ogbuefi, 42, from Clonard Road in Crumlin, Dublin, was sentenced to nine years in prison, and Mr Silvester, 32, from Paddocks, Morristown in Newbridge, Co Kildare, bagged a seven-and-a-half-year imprisonment.
They were arrested and charged following a long-running investigation by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau. Police investigations revealed their involvement in over €6 million in stolen funds laundered through a variety of scams, including romance frauds and smishing schemes, that moved through multiple accounts.
