The controller-general of Nigeria Correctional Services, Sylvester Nwakuche, has commended officers of the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Port Harcourt, for their commitment and professionalism in service delivery.

Mr Nwakuche made the commendation during a working visit to the custodial centre in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

Mr Nwakuche urged the officers to remain resilient for more effective service delivery. He urged the personnel to focus on the NCoS mandate of ensuring safe custody, humane treatment, reformation, and rehabilitation of persons in custody.

Mr Nwakuche also encouraged the officers to remain committed to maintaining peace and security within the custodial facility. He said that the visit was part of efforts to strengthen effective custodial administration, supervision and compliance with operational standards across custodial formations.

The NCoS official stated that regular monitoring of custodial facilities remained essential to maintaining security and improving inmate welfare.

“Regular visits will also help us to achieve the objectives of reformation, rehabilitation and successful reintegration,” he said.

Mr Nwakuche reiterated the NCoS leadership’s commitment to ensuring custodial facilities maintain high operational standards.

The deputy controller in charge of MSCC, Port Harcourt, Adinndu Uzonwanne, commended the NCoS helmsman for the visit.

Mr Uzonwanne expressed the officers’ commitment at the custodial centre to remain resolute in delivering effective services.

He said that the welfare and overall rehabilitation of inmates at the centre remained a major priority of the authorities.

“We shall continue to support the strategic vision of the controller-general and the overall mandate of the NCoS at all times,” he said.
