Nigeria’s rights commission receives 100 petitions in Lagos
Lucas Koyejo, a National Human Rights Commission director, says the NHRC received over 100 petitions over rights violations in Lagos in 11 months.
Mr Koyejo disclosed this on Thursday, on the sidelines of a UN 16-day activism event to create awareness for violating the rights of women and girls in Lagos.
The NHRC director said the petitions for males and females kept increasing daily, especially females and advised victims to always speak up and stand for their rights.
“Whether a man or woman, everybody needs to have their rights protected. Though most of the time, it is the rights of women that are violated,” the rights commission official stated.
The official added, “So, people need to report to the commission if they have their rights violated. At the same time, If it is a crime, they also need to report it to the police.”
Mr Koyejo advised the public to report rights violations by calling the NHRC’s toll-free shortcode 6472.
