NiMet predicts three-day rain, sunshine nationwide from Monday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of sunshine, cloudiness and thunderstorms across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.
NiMet’s weather outlook, released on Sunday in Abuja, predicted sunny skies across the northern region on Monday, with a few patches of clouds.
It envisaged isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall over parts of Taraba State during the afternoon and evening.
The agency forecast cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine across the North-Central region throughout the forecast period.
For the southern region, NiMet predicted cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine and possible thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall.
The affected areas include parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.
It said, “Later during the day, there are prospects of thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains over parts of Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, and Delta states. Others are Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.”
For Tuesday, the agency predicted sunny skies with a few patches of clouds across the northern region.
It envisaged isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall over parts of Taraba State later in the day.

It also predicted cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine across the southern region.
The agency envisaged thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall over parts of Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo and Delta states.
For Wednesday, NiMet predicted sunny skies with a few patches of clouds across the northern region throughout the forecast period.
It forecast cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine across the North-Central region.
The agency also predicted cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine across the southern region.
It envisaged thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall over parts of Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states later in the day.
NiMet warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms in affected areas and urged residents to secure loose objects to prevent accidents.
It advised motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall and urged residents to disconnect electrical appliances from sockets.
The agency also advised people to stay away from tall trees to avoid injuries from falling branches or broken trees.
NiMet advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from the agency for effective operational planning.
The agency said high temperatures could cause thermal discomfort and advised residents to wear breathable clothing and stay in well-ventilated environments.
It also urged the public to remain hydrated and obtain weather updates through its website, www.nimet.gov.ng.
