The Nigeria Immigration Service defeated Adamawa Spikers 2-0 in the female category of the ongoing 2025 National Division 1 and 2 volleyball league.

The match was played at the Indoor Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, on Tuesday in Abuja.

The NIS girls who were determined to win the match won the first set 25-11 and 25-13 in the second set to record their third win out of five matches.

Speaking after the match, captain of the NIS girls, Rihanna Suleiman, rated their performance 50 per cent.

She said, “Our first match was a 3-0 loss. Our second match, we lost. Today, at least in the two matches that we played, we won the two matches. We played five. We won three. We lost two. I will tell my teammates to continue with this momentum to win our remaining matches. We still have six games to go.’’

Ms Suleiman, who praised the organisers, said there was a lot to do to improve the standard of organisation and the tournament.

On her part, the captain of Adamawa Spikers, Joyce Sylvester, said that it was the first time Adamawa State was bringing up a female team to a competition.

She stated, “We played six games. We won three and we lost three. In a competition, there must be a winner and a loser I hope we will do better in our next game. We are playing Federal Road Safety in our next match. We thank our governor for the opportunity he has given us to come and experience volleyball outside Adamawa State. It has always been a festival, but this time round, we came out of the state to be part of the competition. We thank the governor for supporting us.’’

According to her, Adamawa State is participating in Division 1 and Division 2. The boys are participating in Division 1 and Division 2. But the girls are participating only in Division 1.

Thirty-two 32 clubs are participating in the competition, which comprises 10 men’s and 10 women’s clubs in Division One, while there are 12 clubs in Division Two.

The competition which started on August 12, is expected to end on August 19.
