Kemi Nandap, the comptroller general of the Nigeria Immigration Service, has suspended comptrollers and ordered an investigation following allegations of widespread extortion by officers on the Lagos-Seme border corridor.

Ms Nandap, in a statement on Friday, condemned alleged cases of extortion.

“Consequently, the CGI has temporarily relieved the comptrollers in charge of the affected commands of their duties and has directed a thorough investigation surrounding these incidents, in order to identify all officers involved, and ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures are applied with immediate effect,” said the statement.

She reassured the public of the NIS’ continued commitment to professionalism, transparency, and efficiency in the discharge of duties at all entry and exit points across the country.

She restated that the NIS would not tolerate any act capable of eroding public trust or undermining its institutional integrity.

She encouraged the public to report any form of misconduct through the NIS official communication channels, including its social media platforms.

She also provided contact centre numbers—09121900655, 09121556359, and 09121477092—which were available 24 hours a day as part of efforts to strengthen internal accountability mechanisms and enhance service delivery.

She reaffirmed the NIS’ resolve to uphold integrity, discipline, and professionalism while facilitating lawful migration in Nigeria.
