The organised labour in Lagos on Thursday endorsed the reelection of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

During the rally, organised by the unions, tagged ‘Labour4Sanwo-Olu’, held at the Police College Parade Ground in Ikeja, Mr Sanwo-Olu commended the unions for supporting his administration.

He said his government would continue to make life better and liveable for workers in Lagos.

“You are the reason why we are in government. You are the reason why we wake up every day to go to work, and we will not disappoint you. We will not embarrass you. We take it very, very, very seriously. I want to thank you very much,” stated Mr Sanwo-Olu. “My party wants to thank you because this cuts across party lines, it cuts across ethnic lines, it cuts across religious lines, this is for performance, it is for delivery, it is for ensuring that we can provide sustenance and sustainability of life for each and everyone.”

The special adviser to the governor on labour matters, Babatunde Williams, said Mr Sanwo-Olu’s administration had been proactive in putting the welfare of workers on the front burner in salary review and training among other interventions.

According to the chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council, Segun Balogun, the endorsement for Mr Sanwo-Olu’s reelection is in the right direction because of the laudable initiatives and achievements, especially workers’ welfare.

The chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Lagos, Agnes Sessi, said it was the first time the union had publicly endorsed the candidate of any party in Lagos.

Also, the chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Gbenga Ekundayo, said democracy is about inclusion and that the governor has a listening ear and has been accommodating.
