The Nigerian Medical Association in Abia has commended Governor Alex Otti for approving the 100 per cent Consolidated Medical Salary Structure for doctors.

The NMA chairman, Ezinwa Ezuruike, in a statement on Wednesday in Umuahia, expressed the medical association’s appreciation to the governor.

Mr Ezuruike said the approval announced on April 29 restored long-awaited pay parity for state-employed doctors.

Mr Ezuruike noted that the development underscored Otti’s continued commitment to strengthening the health sector and improving the welfare of health professionals in Abia.

“By aligning Abia’s medical salary structure with the federal CONMESS, the governor has once again demonstrated visionary leadership and a deep appreciation of the sacrifices and critical contributions of healthcare workers,” he stated.

The NMA further lauded the additional approval of recruiting 771 new healthcare workers across various professional cadres in Abia.

“This strategic investment in human resources for health is a bold and timely step towards revitalising our state’s health system.

“As an association, we reaffirm the unwavering commitment of our members to delivering quality healthcare services across the state.

“We see this gesture not just as a fulfilment of a promise, but as a call to renewed dedication and excellence in our service to the good people of Abia,” stated Mr Ezuruike.
