NMDPRA: Buhari asks Senate to confirm his political appointees

The Senate has received a request from President Muhammadu Buhari to confirm five nominees as executive directors of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
The request was contained in a letter dated January 31 and read by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, at plenary on Wednesday.
“In accordance with the provision of section 41(2) of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021. I am pleased to forward for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of the under-listed five nominees as executive directors of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority,” stated the letter.
The nominees include Francis Alabo Ogaree, Mustapha Lamorde, Mansur Kuliya, Bashir Sadiq, and Zainab Gobir.
Mr Buhari stated that the request for the nominees’ expeditious confirmation was made to fast-track the takeoff and decision-making in the newly established regulatory authority.
Similarly, in another letter, the president requested the confirmation of Chidinma Osuji as the executive director of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Mr Lawan also read the letter at plenary.
The president explained in the letter that the request for the nominee’s confirmation was made in compliance with Section 5(4) of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation Act, 2010.
