The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has dismissed claims online saying that fuel from the state-owned company doesn’t last compared to others, noting that its Lagos filling stations source petrol from the Dangote Refinery.

“The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd strongly refutes the false and misleading allegations made in a viral video circulating online, which claims that NNPC fuel does not last,” the NNPC said in a statement on Saturday.

“It is important to emphasise that a significant percentage of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold at NNPC retail stations in Lagos—where this deceptive video was created — is sourced from the Dangote Refinery, a strategic partner in promoting local production and energy security.”

NNPC’s statement was a response to a now viral online where a content creator compared fuel from the state-owned petroleum refinery and the one from Dangote Refinery by running them in separate generators at the same time to prove the latter lasts longer.

However, NNPC strongly refuted the claim, stating the “assertion is baseless and entirely unfounded, originating from unverified and amateur research that lacks credibility, accuracy, and professional oversight.”

The state-owned petroleum company suggested the video is part of the wider plan by certain individuals to sabotage the economy of the country and to tarnish the image of NNPC.

“This misleading video represents yet another desperate attempt by economic saboteurs to misinform the public and tarnish NNPC Ltd’s reputation. We will not tolerate deliberate misinformation designed to undermine our operations and mislead Nigerians,” the statement added.

The statement also noted that NNPC “will take firm legal action against individuals or groups who intentionally spread falsehoods about our brand and operations. Those engaged in such malicious activities will be held fully accountable under the law.”
