The authorities of the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara have debunked social media reports of an attack on the university by bandits on Thursday evening.

A statement issued on Friday in Gusau by Umar Usman, the institution’s Information Officer, described the reports as totally untrue and misleading.

The university has never experienced any security breach since its establishment in 2013, he added.

Mr. Usman explained that some students had panicked on sighting some Fulani men near the school, who were returning from a ceremony.

“The incident might have occurred as a result of panic by the students arising from the kidnap of the GGSS, Jangebe girls and other related issues of insecurity in the state.

“The university, therefore, condemns in totality how people are eager to circulate news without making any effort for its authentication from the concerned authorities.

“The management also cautions staff and students against forwarding social media messages as received without proper scrutiny,” he said.

He urged staff and students of the school to remain calm and continue with their normal activities.
