The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has responded swiftly to a fire outbreak at SAPID Container Terminal, Mile II, Lagos.

The permanent secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on January 24, prompting the deployment of LASEMA’s Eagle Squad to the scene.

“On arrival, emergency responders swiftly commenced containment operations, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to adjoining facilities.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire originated from a building located behind the SAPID Container Terminal, where several drums of chemicals and oils were stored,” the statement said.

The statement quoted the agency as attributing the probable cause of the fire outbreak to combustible materials.

The statement said no casualties or loss of life were recorded, due to the prompt intervention of emergency agencies.

It noted that firefighting operations were intensified, as responders worked to fully extinguish the blaze and protect nearby structures.

The statement listed agencies currently on ground to include LASEMA’s Eagle Team from Cappa, Lagos State Fire Service, LRU Fire, and officers of the Nigeria Police.

It added that the situation remained under control, with continuous monitoring and response efforts in place.
