The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Borno State has urged Nigerians to renew their patriotism, promote national unity and uphold the country’s core values for sustainable development.

The NOA State Director, Michael Bdliya, said this in a message to mark the 66th independence anniversary on Thursday in Maiduguri.

Mr Bdliya said that Nigeria’s diversity should be regarded as a strength rather than a source of division.

He said that independence was not only a celebration of freedom from colonial rule but also a reminder of citizens’ collective responsibility to build a nation anchored on unity, integrity and patriotism.

“Borno State, having endured many challenges, stands as a symbol of resilience and the Nigerian spirit of never giving up,” he said.

Mr Bdliya urged the citizens to place national interest above personal and sectional interests, promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence, and respect one another irrespective of tribe, religion or political affiliations.

He enjoined Nigerians to uphold discipline, integrity, dignity of labour, social justice, religious tolerance, self-reliance and patriotism.

The director underscored the roles of the youths, traditional and religious leaders, media and civil society organisations in promoting national unity and social cohesion.

Mr Bdliya reiterated the commitment of the agency to civic education and sensitisation across the state.
