North-East commission commiserates with NUJ over Bauchi auto crash

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has conveyed its condolences to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council.
The condolence followed a road accident that involved several journalists covering the commission’s project inauguration in Bauchi State.
This is contained in a statement by the Head of Corporate Services, Abba Musa, issued to journalists on Saturday in Bauchi.
Recall that the accident occurred on Friday on Yashi–Yelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri Local Government Area.
It involved a vehicle conveying 14 journalists from various media organisations as well as a driver on official assignment with the commission’s delegation.
Mr Musa said, “The NEDC Governing Board, management and staff wish to extend its heartfelt sympathy to the NUJ, particularly the Bauchi State Council and the Bauchi State Government over the unfortunate incident.”
He recalled that the crash happened on February 6, during the inauguration and handover of completed projects across Bauchi State, adding that the affected journalists were part of the media team covering the exercise.
According to him, the governing board approved the provision of full medical care for the injured journalists and support for their families.
Mr Musa added that efforts were ongoing to reach out to the affected media organisations and victims’ relatives.
Those injured included journalists from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), The Guardian, The Nation Newspapers, cameramen and correspondents of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
Others are reporters from Channels Television, Arise TV, Africa Independent Television (AIT), Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC), Bauchi State Television (BATV) as well as an online media reporter.
