Norwich City sack Johannes Thorup, confirm Jack Wilshere as interim head coach

The club confirmed the appointment of former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, who will handle the final games for Norwich.

Norwich City sacked head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup on Monday after poor results and placed ex-Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere in charge for their two remaining games.

The club signed the Danish manager to a three-year contract in May last year. However, under his leadership, the team only won 14 of 47 games, giving them a 29.55 per cent win.

Despite this, his team has scored 67 goals so far this season, second only to the league’s current leaders, Leeds United, who have scored 89 goals and finished with an average of 1.2 points per game during his tenure.

This decision followed a 5-3 loss to Portsmouth on April 18 and a disappointing 3-1 home loss to Millwall on Monday.

Glen Riddersholm has also left his position as the club’s assistant head coach.

In the meantime, the club confirmed the appointment of former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, who will handle the final games for Norwich, starting with a match against Middlesbrough on Saturday before finishing the season away from home at Cardiff City on May 3.

The club’s sporting director, Ben Knapper, said the manager’s hiring was “in line with our wider club strategy and direction” while they were considering the club’s plans.

He admitted that “the recent results and performances have deemed it necessary for us to make a change.”
