NPFL: Barau FC edge Remo Stars in Kano

Barau Football Club returned to winning ways with a 2–1 victory over Remo Stars in a thrilling Nigeria Professional Football League encounter at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Sunday.
Remo Stars drew first blood in the 63rd minute through Hadi Haruna, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to give the visitors the lead in an entertaining contest.
Barau FC responded swiftly just three minutes later, striker Joseph Atule equalised with a brilliant header from Sugau Aliyu’s precise cross in the 66th minute, reigniting hope for the hosts.
The winner came in the 86th minute when Joseph Kemin fired past the visiting goalkeeper, sealing a hard-fought victory and sending the Kano fans into celebration.
After the game, Barau FC technical adviser Eugene Agagbe described the match as challenging, noting that Remo Stars came determined to secure crucial points in their relegation fight.
He commended his players for adhering to the team’s philosophy and executing the game plan effectively under pressure.
Agagbe said, “It was a tough match, but our players showed resilience and determination. This win is well-deserved, and we are focused on maintaining consistency as we approach the final fixtures.”
Remo Stars’ coach, Usman Abdalla, acknowledged the struggles but commended his players’ fighting spirit despite the setback.
He restated that the team would regroup and focus on their remaining matches to secure their league survival.
With the win, Barau FC climbed to ninth on the NPFL table, accumulating 46 points from 34 matches, bolstering their ambition for a strong finish this season.
