NPFL: Rangers pip Nasarawa United 2-0 to climb top

Rangers International FC, on Sunday, humbled visiting Nasarawa United FC of Lafia 2-0 to climb to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League in the week 28 of the 2025/26 season.
The match played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu lived up to expectations as the two teams kept their fans on the edge throughout the 90 minutes.
Veteran striker, Godwin Obaje, put Rangers ahead in the 20th-minute of play.
The goal rattled the visitors, who responded with beautiful passes and one-on-one combination, causing anxiety in front of Rangers vital area.
Despite the rampaging force from the “solid miners,” Chidiebere Nwobodo doubled the home team’s lead before the half time whistle.
On resumption of the second half, the visitors seized the initiative, dominating Rangers through the midfield but poor marksmanship robbed them of goals.
Rangers also made frantic efforts to increase their tally but their efforts were frustrated, but they left the pitch celebrating their three points.
The win pushed the Flying Antelopes to the zenith of the NPFL table, with 47 points after 28 matches.
In a post-match interview, the Coach of Nasarwa, Mangut Mpwas, blamed missing chances for their goalless outing.
“We played well but missed many yawning chances. That is football,” he said.
The Coach of Rangers, Fidelis Illechukwu, praised his men for scoring early goals to seal the game.
“It was a fantastic performance and we hope to keep it up,” Mr Illechukwu said.
According to him, the team is now looking at winning the league.
He, however, admitted that “it is still a long way to go.”
