Sunshine Stars of Akure on Saturday returned to winning ways after defeating Katsina United in the match day 30 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The match played at the Ondo State Sport Complex, Akure, on Saturday, had both teams played goalless in the first half of the encounter.

Sunshine Stars had last won 1-0 against Rivers United and failed to pick maximum points against Shooting Stars and Akwa United in Akure.

However, after 13 minutes of play in the second half (58th minute), Sunshine Stars Midfielder, Azeez Ajagbe, broke the deadlock with a superb finish to give the home team the lead.

In the 80th minute, a penalty was awarded to Sunshine Stars after Katsina goalkeeper Nwabali Stanley’s leg caught striker Donald Ugochuckwu in the area with the latter converting from the spot to make it 2-0.

Katsina United Coach, Bishir Sadauki, said that his team failed to utilise the chances it created and suffered for it. He said his team would try to push on and achieve the set targets for the season.

Sunshine Stars Coach, Emmanuel Deutch, dedicated the victory to the sports writers and fans of the team for staying beside the team.

With the win, Sunshine Stars now have 42 points from 30 matches and are now eighth on the NPFL log.
