NPS reaffirms commitment to protecting endangered parrots

The National Park Service has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting endangered parrot species in the country.
Ibrahim Goni, the conservator-general of NPS, said this during the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the registered trustees of the Parrot Conservation Trust.
He said the NPS is working with stakeholders to stop the decline of parrot populations by protecting natural habitats.
“Today, on this important occasion, we are marking the second round of understanding between the NPS and the registered trustees of the Parrot Conservation Trust.
“We are gathered here not only to consolidate on the significant partnership but to also reaffirm our commitment to the protection and conservation of our precious wildlife, particularly the parrots.
“The collaboration is a powerful testament to our shared values and dedication to wildlife preservation,” he said.
Mr Goni expressed worry over illegal wildlife trade, which continues to threaten the entire global conservation landscape.
“Together we can combat illegal wildlife trade. And together we can give parrots the chance to thrive once more. As we sign this MoU, I urge you to adhere to the terms of the MoU to build a strong partnership for the survival of parrots and other will-be species,” Mr Goni said.
Responding, Ifeanyi Ezenwa, the director of Parrot Conservation Trust, expressed satisfaction over the memorandum of understanding signing, saying the organisation had looked forward to it.
