The Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTL), on Wednesday, inaugurated a new divisional police headquarters and housing units in Ado-Ekiti to enhance crime fighting in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration, the executive secretary of the Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu, described the projects as strategic investment in modern, responsive and people-centred policing.

He noted that the projects reflected the Trust Fund’s nationwide strategy to rehabilitate and construct critical police infrastructure, including stations, training colleges, barracks and healthcare facilities.

Mr Sheidu emphasised that prioritising officers’ welfare, through decent accommodation, would boosts morale, reinforces discipline, and enhances dedication to duty.

He assured that the Trust Fund would continue to construct and rehabilitate structures across the police headquarters in the country, to further enhance their operations and boast their morale.

“Today, we gather to commission this Divisional Headquarters and six-man rank-and-file accommodation. This is not merely the unveiling of structures, but a reinforcement of our commitment to modern, responsive, and people-centred policing.

“At the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, we have identified infrastructure and welfare as critical pillars in supporting the Nigeria Police Force.

“We realised that a functional and well-equipped divisional headquarters enhances operational coordination, intelligence gathering, response time and community engagement.

“Therefore, prioritising officers’ welfare, through decent and secure accommodation is a deliberate commitment to professionalism.

“When officers live in dignity and stability, their morale rises, discipline is reinforced and dedication to duty is elevated. Institutional performance is directly tied to the well-being of those entrusted with protecting and serving the nation,” he said.

He noted that the project reflects broader nationwide strategy to rehabilitate and construct police infrastructure from stations to training colleges, barracks and healthcare facilities ensuring officers operate in environments that match the importance of their mandate.

“Security is the bedrock of economic development. Businesses flourish where there is stability.

“Farmers produce where there is safety.

Communities thrive where there is law and order. By strengthening divisional infrastructure in Ekiti State, we contribute directly to the region’s social and economic prosperity.

“Let me assure the people of Ekiti State that this is part of a structured and accountable rollout of interventions across the country. We remain committed to transparency, quality delivery and sustainable impact.

“To the officers who will serve here, this facility is an investment in professionalism, discipline, and integrity. Engage the community with respect and fairness.

“To the good people of Ekiti State, security is a shared responsibility. Support your officers and provide timely information,” he stated.

Speaking, Governor Biodun Oyebanji described the project as a testament to the federal government’s continued support for the police.

Mr Oyebanji, represented by his chief of staff, Oyeniyi Adebayo, said security remained the bedrock of economic development, stressing that peace goes beyond the absence of conflict to include freedom from fear and safety in daily life.

He appealed for additional infrastructure support to further strengthen the state command and maintain the state’s reputation as one of the most peaceful in Nigeria.

The Commissioner of Police in the State, Joe Eribo, represented by P.T Nyatse, lauded the Trust Fund and the state government, for creating a conducive security environment.

Mr Eribo assured residents that the facilities would be effectively utilised and properly maintained to enhance service delivery.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to collaborate with sister agencies and stakeholders, while pledging sustained efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.
