NRS inaugurates committee to review taxation curriculum in Nigeria

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has set up a curriculum review committee to evaluate the current taxation curriculum in the Nigerian educational system and to reform tax administration to meet modern standards.
The revenue agency inaugurated the committee at the NRS Academy in Abuja on February 24, 2026, with the directive being to work with the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria to develop a revamped tax curriculum for the academy within 60 days.
Adeolu Akinyemi, the director of the academy, emphasised that the initiative aims to ensure that academic training on taxation in the country’s educational system reflects modern tax administration.
One of the committee’s mandates would be to review existing taxation curriculum in educational institutions and recommend changes that reflect contemporary tax policies, recent legislative developments, and emerging areas such as digital taxation and global tax practices.
The committee, whose members include officials from NRS, tax and fiscal policy experts, and professionals in tax administration, will also collaborate with regulatory bodies and institutions to ensure that the revised curriculum meets national educational standards.
The NRS maintains that the initiative is part of the agency’s effort to improve taxation education across Nigeria.
