The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has apprehended six suspected motorcycle thieves in Kano State.

This is contained in a statement by the spokesman for the corps, SC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, on Monday in Kano.

He said the suspects (names withheld) were apprehended on January 14 by operatives of the corps attached to the Kumbotso Division in synergy with vigilantes.

“The six suspects, along with two others now at large, specialised in violently attacking and snatching motorbikes belonging to unsuspecting members of the public around Gurin Gawa and Bechi areas of Kumbotso Local Government Area.

“On January 14, at about 3:00 a.m., two of the suspects forcefully broke into one, Abdullahi Bala’s house situated at Gurin Gawa, Kumbotso LGA, assaulted him and drove away his bike.

“The other four suspects are stolen motorcycle receivers,” he said.

He said the operatives recovered two motorcycles, adding that the corps had launched a manhunt to apprehend the two suspects at large.

According to him, the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

The statement quoted the commandant of the corps, Mohammed Lawal-Falala, as directing the armed squad unit to intensify patrol along the Eastern Bypass to ward off criminals in the area.
