NSCDC officers ready for Edo, Imo elections, says commandant

Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Imo State, Mary Mbanugo, has said officers of the NSCDC are ready for deployment to cover the Edo governorship and Imo council elections.
This is contained in a statement by the NSCDC’s Public Relations Officer in Imo State, Mr Lowell Chimeziri, a Chief Superintendent of Corps, to journalists in Owerri, on Friday.
Ms Mbanugo assumed office on Monday, after an official handover from her predecessor, Matthew Ovye, redeployed to Delta State.
Mr Chimeziri said that many officers and men of the Imo State Command had been deployed to Edo State for coverage of the governorship poll while others would cover the council elections in Imo State on Saturday, September 21.
He said that in a meeting with the command’s men and officers, Ms Mbanugo charged them to operate within the ambit of the law at all times and never to take negative advantage of the electorate.
“The security luminary swiftly convened an emergency briefing consisting of the command 2ic, heads of department, unit, section, area commanders, divisional officers and all the command’s arm bearers on the way forward. We are leaving no stone unturned in this national assignment, no compromise, we must exhibit a high level of professionalism before, during and after the two elections in Edo and Imo states.’’ Mr Chimeziri quoted the commandant as saying.
She, however, expressed confidence that with proper inter-agency cooperation among security agencies, the elections would be successful.
