The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Prof. Haruna Musa, has charged athletes representing the institution at the 2025 Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) to conduct themselves as good ambassadors throughout the championship.

Mr Musa, who described sports as a vital tool for promoting unity, peace and cordial relations among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups, spoke through the Director of Sports, Prof. Rabiu Muhammad.

He said the university had continued to prioritise the welfare of its athletes to motivate them to excel at national and international competitions.

He said, “Sports is not a do-or-die affair. Participating in competitions brings joy, happiness, unity, peace and love among athletes.’’

According to him, more than 150 male and female athletes, coaches and officials representing BUK arrived safely in Jos, Plateau State, last Thursday ahead of the Games.

The VC said the institution would compete in 13 events, including football, athletics, chess, judo, taekwondo, tennis, basketball, hockey and badminton.

He expressed confidence that, based on the athletes’ performance at the NUGA preliminary stage held at the Aliyu Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUST), Wudil, the BUK contingent would make a strong showing at the main Games scheduled for November  8 to 17 in Jos.
