The Adamawa chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has warned against operating illegal motor parks across the 21 existing local government areas.

Umar Babba, the state chairman of the union, gave the warning while speaking with journalists on Tuesday in Yola.

He described the rampant instances of operating illegal and unregistered motor parks as a serious threat to the security of lives and property of passengers and drivers.

“We would collaborate with relevant authorities to ensure that violators are brought to book for appropriate sanctions,” he said.

Mr Babba said the union recently engaged in sensitisation campaigns across all its 80 registered branches on the need to guard against the operation of illegal motor parks and the imperative for adhering to the use of passenger manifest.

Mr Babba said the union expects delivery of 150 brand new vehicles from the state government to be distributed to deserving members as soft loans, saying this was part of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s administration to empower them.

“We have about 80,000 registered members across the state, and we closely monitor their activities daily,” he said.

The state chapter of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) had called on the state and federal governments to fix the highways in the state.
