The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has called for the disbursement of the N10 billion COVID-19 relief fund, which the federal government is thought to have created for the transport industry.

The national president, Tajudeen Baruwa, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria today.

“It is of utmost importance that palliatives be extended to our members, this will help to ameliorate the hardship and resultant effects of the disease on them,” Mr. Baruwa said.

Mr. Baruwa said the union wants 70 percent of the fund due to the size of its membership. He said the union had expressed its demands to the ministerial committee in charge of disbursing the money.

Two months ago, The transport ministry announced on its website that a committee was being set up to create guidelines and disburse a N10 billion relief fund for road transport operators and workers across the country.
