The director general of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), Brig.- Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed, has urged corps members serving in Zamfara to be security conscious.

The DG also advised them to avoid unnecessary travelling during the one-year compulsory national service.

Mr Ahmed made the call on Saturday while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members at the temporary orientation camp in Gusau.

The DG said the scheme was committed to corps members’ safety and welfare.

He added that the management of NYSC had always been responsive to the welfare and security of corps members.

“I am happy with the security arrangement in this orientation camp and the entire state,” he stated.

Mr Ahmed said he was impressed with the peaceful condition of the camp, as activities were going on smoothly.

“It is very commendable that, despite reports of security challenges, Zamfara still remained peaceful,

“I, therefore, urge you to be serious about your safety,” he urged the corps members.

The DG advised corps members to take the skills acquisition programme seriously during the orientation course to be well-equipped for self-employment after service.

“This is the reason the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) was established to equip the corps members for self-employment,” Mr Ahmed said.

He advised the corps members to learn at least two skills under the SAED programme before the end of the service year.

”I am happy to inform you that many of your predecessors who embraced vocational and entrepreneurial training of the SAED platform are now millionaires,”  he said.

The DG also urged corps members to be disciplined and at all times respect the culture and religion of “your host communities.”

Earlier, the state NYSC coordinator, Lawan Ahmed, described the DG’s visit to the camp as a welcome development.

He lauded the support from the NYSC headquarters for the sustainability of the scheme.
