NYSC chief urges corps members to embrace camp activities

The director-general of the National Youth Service Corps, Olakunle Nafiu, has urged corps members deployed to Rivers to embrace orientation activities.
Mr Nafiu made the call on Monday while addressing 2026 Batch C Stream I corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai LGA.
He urged the corps members to adapt positively to rigorous camp activities to become adequately trained and equipped leaders.
“I urge you to take the in-camp and post-camp Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme seriously to create sustainable wealth through multiple sources of income,” he said.
Mr Nafiu advised corps members to remain security-conscious, avoid night travel and shun social media misuse and other practices that could expose them to danger. He also urged them to remain apolitical, honest and credible while serving as Independent National Electoral Commission ad hoc staff during the 2027 elections.
The NYSC chief restated that corps members must demonstrate integrity and uphold the highest standards of professionalism in all their endeavours. He said the federal government had approved an upward review of corps members’ feeding allowances during orientation camp.
He added that modalities for improving the quality of corps members’ kits had been activated for implementation in 2027.
Meanwhile, the NYSC Rivers coordinator, Moses Oleghe, said Governor Siminalayi Fubara had approved an immediate increase in corps members’ allowances.
Mr Oleghe said corps members posted to urban areas would receive N20,000, while those serving in rural communities would receive N35,000.
“This increment, alongside other achievements, forms part of the milestones recorded by the Fubara administration,” he said.
Mr Oleghe also presented a report on the camp situation during activities marking the NYSC chief’s visit to the orientation camp.
