The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has restated its commitment to the provision of viable community development programmes at the grassroots.

NYSC director general, Olakunle Nafiu, said this in Bauchi on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members.

Represented by Umoren Kufre, NYSC coordinator in Bauchi, Mr Nafiu said the corps members were expected to adhere strictly to the orientation course timetable.

He enjoined them to adhere to the NYSC bye-laws, extant rules and other relevant policies, warning that defaulters would be sanctioned.

Mr Nafiu assured that the corps members would continue to provide services where they are most needed, especially in the rural areas.

He lauded Governor Bala Mohammed over the rehabilitation of the corps members’ hostels and construction of a multi-purpose hall  at the Malam Y.M. Baba NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Wailo.

“There can be no better demonstration of commitment, love and fatherly care than what we are seeing in the camp now. It is now clear for all to see that the governor is a great lover of the youths and particularly the corps members,” he said.

Mr Nafiu said that 1,022 out of the 1,900 corps members posted to the state completed their registration, comprising 497 males and 525 females.

Adamu Gabarin, commissioner for youths and sports development, said the primary aim of the scheme was to foster national unity and integration.

He said the philosophy of the scheme acknowledged the significance of physical, psychological, mental, and intellectual development of youth through the orientation course.

“It is now your responsibility to seize this opportunity and make the best use of it during the orientation exercise,” he said.

The commissioner urged the corps members to justify the trust the nation has in them and advocate for national development and transformation.
