NYSC DG urges corps members to remain politically neutral, obey scheme rules

The director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, has urged corps members to remain politically neutral and respect the rules of the scheme.
Mr Nafiu disclosed this while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Dazigau, in Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State on Thursday.
The D-G said corps members were deployed to serve the nation in their host communities and must steer clear of partisan politics.
According to him, adherence to the core values of the scheme remains non-negotiable.
“Respect the scheme, respect the rules of the game, and remain neutral in politics.
“Beyond discipline, I urge you to look far above conventional employment and embrace skills acquisition,” the D-G advised.
He also encouraged those posted to schools to teach with pride and warned against unauthorised journeys, noting that only the State Coordinator could approve travel outside Yobe State.
The D-G declared that the camp was “cleaner, tidier, more organised, and more accommodating” than during his last visit.
Mr Nafiu used the visit to inspect facilities at the Dazigau Camp and commended the visible transformation under the state coordinator, Okochi Okpara.
Mr Okpara, who assumed office in December as the NYSC state coordinator, had earlier outlined key achievements in the state and appealed for the deployment of more corps members “to maximise the upgraded infrastructure.”
