OAU 49th Convocation: VC urges graduands to focus on innovation

The vice-chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Adebayo Bamire, has charged the graduating students of the institution to use the knowledge they have acquired for national development and the advancement of the global community.
Mr Bamire gave the advice on Friday during his address at the 49th convocation ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic session, held at the Oduduwa Amphitheatre Hall in Ile-Ife.
He congratulated the graduands on their unwavering dedication to academic excellence, noting that their hard work, resilience, and commitment have earned them the degrees and honours conferred during the convocation.
The vice-chancellor praised the parents, guardians, and family members of the graduands, noting that the achievements were a testament to their sacrifices, guidance and unwavering efforts.
“We will continue to deploy our human and material resources strategically to ensure sustainable development and to drive accelerated institutional growth. The university currently offers 94 NUC-accredited academic programmes, providing our students with broad and robust training opportunities across diverse disciplines,” he stated.
The vice-chancellor said the university has maintained a strong commitment to sustaining its infrastructure through comprehensive renovation efforts, leveraging financial support primarily from TETFund and the Federal Government’s capital appropriation.
He called on stakeholders to assist the institution in addressing the challenges it faces, including the completion of the Rural Electrification Agency project at nearly 70 per cent.
According to him, completion of these projects will provide a conducive, safe, and secure environment for the university.
