The management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, has said the institution emerged winner of a prestigious national STEM competition (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) after defeating the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) in the final.

The university’s spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated in a statement on Tuesday that after a rigorous and highly competitive process involving leading universities across Nigeria, OAU advanced to the final stage alongside FUTA.

“In a thrilling finale marked by brilliance, innovation and teamwork, Obafemi Awolowo University outperformed FUTA to secure the first position overall,” Mr Olarewaju said.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adebayo Simeon Bamire, said that the landmark achievement reaffirmed the university’s enduring legacy of excellence in science and technology education, research and innovation.

The VC noted, “It also highlights the exceptional quality, discipline and ingenuity of our students, as well as the unwavering commitment of our faculty and staff.”

Mr Bamire described the feat as “a proud moment in the history of our great university and a clear demonstration that OAU remains a pacesetter in STEM education, research, and innovation.”

He further commended the team for exemplifying the core values of excellence, integrity and hard work for which the university is renowned.

He added, “This success not only strengthens OAU’s standing as a leading centre of academic excellence and beyond but also serves as motivation for even greater accomplishments.

The global president of Great Ife Alumni Association, Leye Falode, was also quoted in the statement as praising the students for their resilience and dedication.

Mr Falode said, “This victory is a product of rigorous preparation, teamwor and the enabling academic environment that OAU provides. Our students, who are future alumni, have once again proven that they can compete and excel at the highest level.”

The university further commended the team for bringing great honor and prestige to the institution.

Mr Bamire thanked stakeholders whose support brought the achievement, reiterating his commitment to nurturing talents, advancing knowledge, and sustaining excellence in all fields.
