Oba of Benin pardons ‘rebellious’ Enigie

Rebellious Enigie (dukes) have voluntarily returned and pledged their allegiance to the Benin monarchy.
On Sunday, a statement from the palace of Oba to Benin, Oba Ewuare II, said the pledge followed an alleged dramatic and failed coup to balkanise Benin Kingdom.
According to the Benin palace, the dukes claimed to have been misled in signing the purported letter in November 2022, requesting the Edo government to create a parallel Benin traditional rulers council for the seven Benin-speaking council areas that make up Edo South senatorial district.
The statement disclosed that the king accepted the apology of the dukes and extended a hand of fellowship to them.
In an interview with journalists, Sylvester Ogiesoba, the Enogie of Ogua, and Imagbenikaro Ekhosuehi, the Enogie of Oka N’ Izevbihen, commended the monarch.
