Obidient Movement calls for calm amid speculation of Peter Obi’s defection

The Obidient Movement, a pro-Peter Obi political mobilisation group, has urged its members to remain calm amid speculations that he may leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
The call came hours after the Anambra chapter of the Kwakwansiya Movement announced the defection of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to the NDC.
It was gathered that Mr Kwankwaso’s move to the NDC was predicated upon an agreement with Mr Obi for both men to join the party and run on a joint presidential ticket in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement on Saturday, the national coordinator of the movement, Yinusa Tanko, said, “The Obidient Movement acknowledges the growing concerns and widespread reports regarding recent political developments in the political landscape and evolving engagements with current and potential partners.
“We wish to reassure all the supporters and members of the movement across Nigeria and in the diaspora that His Excellency Peter Gregory Obi is currently engaged in extensive consultations with key stakeholders, political allies and aligned movements.”
Mr Tanko further explained that the engagements were focused on determining the most strategic and effective path forward in the best interests of the Nigerian people and on the shared mission to build a new Nigeria.
He urged supporters not to be misled by speculative reports, insisting that Mr Obi is committed to advancing the country.
“Peter Obi remains committed to this mission and will, in due course, formally address the Obidient Movement and the general public to provide clarity on the current situation and the direction ahead,” Mr Tanko said.
