The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral, Emmanuel Ogalla, said the Nigerian Navy will continue to promote active participation in both local and international sports.

He stated this on Friday during the Golf Kitty tournament, held as part of the Nigerian Navy’s 69th Anniversary celebrations at Dolphin Golf Club, Navy Town, Lagos.

He stated, “This tournament is one of the many ways we build bridges between the Navy and wider society. Golf reflects the values that define a good naval officer: patience, strategy, precision, integrity, and composure under pressure.’’

According to him, golf has become a key event in the navy’s sports calendar and a platform for friendship and cultural exchange nationwide.

He said the navy values wellness, team spirit, and leadership development alongside core operational duties.

He stated, “Sporting events like this tournament support our values of professionalism, integrity, and teamwork. They also help us unwind, connect, and strengthen the unity that binds us as one force and one family.’’

Mr Ogalla encouraged navy personnel to rededicate themselves to building a credible and efficient force that meets national security needs.

He stated, “The Nigerian Navy has evolved into a formidable, professional maritime force, committed to protecting Nigeria’s maritime interests and contributing to global maritime security. We remain committed to continuous training and improved welfare for all personnel.’’

Mr Ogalla also inaugurated a remodelled Naval Ordnance Depot (NOD) 11-room apartment for junior personnel at Navy Town.

Admiral Superintendent of NOD, Rear Adm. Livingston Izu, said the CNS approved resources for the renovation to address accommodation challenges at the depot.

He said, “Various renovation works were carried out using direct labour to ensure a conducive living environment. These works included roofing, tiling, painting, plumbing, electrical upgrades, borehole installation, and provision of basic furniture. The project’s completion and commissioning will boost morale and enhance productivity for greater service delivery.’’

Mr Izu praised Mr Ogalla for his visionary leadership and dedication to personnel welfare and service effectiveness.

“This initiative clearly shows the navy’s commitment to motivating its officers and ratings for improved national security,” he stated.

He urged the beneficiaries to value and always maintain the accommodation properly.

He stated, “Let us take full ownership and ensure the facility serves its intended purpose.’’
