Ogun Assembly passes agricultural land management bill

The Ogun State House of Assembly, on Friday, passed a bill establishing the Ogun State Agricultural Land Management Agency.
The passage of the bill titled H.B. No. 029/OG/2025 -Ogun State Agricultural Land Management Agency Bill, 2025, was passed at the plenary presided by the Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide, at the Assembly Complex in Abeokuta.
The bill mandates the deployment of a Comprehensive Framework for Responsible and Inclusive Land-Intensive Agricultural Investment (FRILIA) to provide clear guidelines for land allocation and management in the state.
The passage followed the presentation of the report of the joint committees on agriculture, lands and housing, led by the chairman, Waliu Owode (PDP-Ijebu-East), who moved for its adoption.
The motion was seconded by Olusegun Kaka (APC- Ijebu-North II) and supported by the entire house through a voice vote.
However, the bill was read and adopted clause by clause before the committee of the whole house, after which the deputy speaker, Bolanle Ajayi, moved the motion for the third reading.
The minority leader, Lukman Adeleye (PDP-Odogbolu) seconded the motion and the house unanimously approved it . The cerk/head of legislative service, Sakiru Adebakin, thereafter conducted the third reading of the bill.
However, Mr Elemide directed that a clean copy be forwarded to Goernor Dapo Abiodun for assent.
In another development, the house confirmed the nomination of Abdul-Nojeem Olayinka as the new auditor-general for local governments.
The confirmation followed the adoption of the report of the committee of the whole house, presented by the deputy speaker and seconded by the minority leader.
The deputy speaker told the house that the committee thoroughly reviewed Mr Olayinka’s credentials and responses during the screening process and found him suitable for the appointment.
The speaker subsequently directed that the house approval be conveyed to the governor for the swearing-in of the nominee.
