The Labour Party has rejected the All Progressives Congress (APC) victory in Saturday’s elections across the 20 local government areas and 236 wards in Ogun State.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abeokuta, the chairman of the LP in Ogun, Biodun Jagun, demanded that the election, which he described as a failure, be cancelled.

Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), Babatunde Osibodu, had on Sunday announced the official results of the polls in a live broadcast at the commission’s headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.

Mr Osibodu stated that the election, which witnessed the state’s ruling party emerge victorious in all wards, recorded 613,156 votes in the chairmanship election in the 20 LGAs.

However, Mr Jagun threatened that the Labour Party would challenge the outcome of the polls in a competent court of jurisdiction, insisting that no election was held in almost all the polling units in the state.

Mr Jagun said, “OGSIEC officials were nowhere to be seen in over ninety per cent of the polling units, and there were no election materials at the polling units as of 1:30 p.m. In the few polling units where election materials were delivered, the materials were incomplete and were delivered around 1:00 p.m., as against 8:00 a.m. when the election was supposed to start.

“We totally reject whatever results that are declared in this sham of an election. Even the good people of Ogun State have been expressing their opinions on radio and television that there was no election in Ogun State.

“We call on OGSIEC to cancel the entire election for being in clear violation of the electoral guidelines of Ogun State Electoral Law. If they fail to do this, we will reject any results that are announced and put the necessary machinery in motion to challenge this charade in court.”

The Accord Party, African Action Congress, African Democratic Congress, Action Democratic Party, All Progressives Congress, Allied People’s Movement, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Labour Party, and the Peoples Democratic Party are among the political parties that participated in the polls.

Others are the Social Democratic Party, the Young Progressive Party, the Action People’s Party, the Action Alliance, the Boot Party, the Peoples Redemption Party, the National Rescue Movement, and the Zenith Labour Party.
