An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, Ogun State, on Wednesday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Aba Abdullai, to one month imprisonment for stealing cable wire valued at N200,000.

Abdullai, with no fixed address, was convicted on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Delivering her Judgment, the magistrate, R.A Lawal said that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the convict was guilty as charged.

She therefore convicted Abdullai to one month imprisonment with an option of N10,000 fine.

Meanwhile, the magistrate however, discharged and acquitted the second defendant Abdulramon Sanni, 21, arraigned alongside the convict.

She said the prosecution lacked credible evidence linking Sanni to the crime.

Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Ojo Adewusi, told the court that the offences were allegedly committed on July 24 at about 6:30 pm at Logbara Area of Owode -Egba Abeokuta.

Mr Adewusi said Abdullai and Sanni conspired to commit a felony by allegedly stealing cable wires valued at N200,000 belonging to New Hope Company.

He added that Abdullai and Sanni were caught in the act by vigilance operatives who reported the case to the police.

Mr Adewusi said the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and Section 516 of the Criminal Code Vol.1 Laws of Ogun 2006.
