The Ogun Directorate of National Orientation Agency (NOA), on Wednesday, in Abeokuta, began the National Identity Project campaign in the state.

The state director, Funke Salako, while speaking during a news conference to herald the campaign, said it would focus on sensitisation regarding the National Anthem and the national values charter.

Ms Salako added that the project was planned to bring the nation together, irrespective of tribe, religion or ethnicity.

She added that the project was a systemic reintroduction of

the positive values of Nigerians and would drum the message to leaders and the led for a better nation.

“National Identity is not merely a set of symbols or a collection of historical events, it is the essence of who we are as a people.

“It encompasses our shared language, traditions and values, forming the bedrock of our cultural heritage.

“Our national identity fosters a sense of belonging, allowing us to connect deeply with one another and to celebrate our diversity,” the Ogun director of NOA said.

Ms Salako added that the project’s purpose was a tactical, purposeful and deliberate training of the people on positive and enviable values, which are enshrined in the national values charter.

She explained that the national values charter was not just a document but a commitment to uphold and promote the core values which define Nigeria.

“The National Values Charter is based on seven citizens codes and the seven Nigerian promises.

“The citizens codes are the expectations of the government from the citizens and expectations of citizens from government,” Ms Salako said.

The state director also said the national values charter would lead to the creation of 37,000 Citizens Brigade members across the country.

This, according to her, translates to 1,000 Citizen Brigades per state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with adequate representation in primary and secondary schools in the country.

“The other half of our campaign is the promotion and popularisation of the national anthem. We encourage everyone to learn and reflect on the anthem,” she added.
