The Ogun State police command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and vehicle thieves, Mohammed Usman, 48, and Abiodun Ogunojukan, 38, in the Adeleye area of Itele, Ota.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the suspects were arrested during operations carried out on May 9 and May 10, 2026.

“Acting on credible intelligence on the 9th of May 2026, detectives of the Ifo Division stormed a suspected criminal hideout in the Adeleye Area, Itele, Ota, where stolen vehicles were allegedly concealed,” he said.

According to him, the operation led to the recovery of three suspected stolen vehicles, two live cartridges, and foreign currency.

“On arrival at about 4:00 p.m., operatives sighted suspected stolen vehicles within the premises and strategically laid an ambush for the occupants, who were absent at the time,” Mr Babaseyi added.

He said a follow-up operation conducted at about 10:35 p.m. led to the arrest of Mohammed Adeniyi Usman, also known as “Mandela.”

Mr Babaseyi said, “A search conducted on the premises led to the recovery of one Toyota Corolla belonging to a complainant, one Toyota Venza allegedly stolen at gunpoint on 26 April 2026 at Ilese-Awo, Abeokuta, and one Honda Crosstour reportedly snatched during a separate armed robbery operation at Ijoko, Ota.”

Mr Babaseyi said Usman’s arrest was part of efforts to dismantle a wider criminal syndicate involved in armed robbery and vehicle snatching within Ogun State and beyond.

He added that further intelligence-led operations conducted on May 10, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m. led operatives of the Ifo and Sango divisions to the Sango-Ota Under Bridge, where another suspect, Abiodun Ogunojukan, also known as “Ilasa,” was arrested.

Mr Babaseyi said Mr Ogunojukan confessed to his involvement in the crimes and provided useful information aiding efforts to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover more stolen vehicles.
